Carlos Lehder was George Jung’s partner in crime when he started smuggling cocaine for Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel. However, after a couple of years of working together, Lehder cut out Jung as a smuggling partner as he started working for the Medellin Cartel and other drugs cartels on an individual basis. At the top of his criminal career, he acquired his own private island in the Bahamas, Norman’s Cay, which he used as a trafficking hub between Columbia and the USA.
It is said that Lehder’s net worth is $2.7 billion USD. He acquired this fortune by trafficking tons and tons of drugs to the US. At the highlight of his career, he smuggled about 500 kilos of cocaine a day!
Lehder was successfully prosecuted and is currently serving his time in federal prison. It’s doubtful that he will ever be released again. Find out more about one of the biggest drugs lords in history by reading the Carlos Lehder biography.
